Centella Asiatica is an umbelliferous tender plant with numerous creeping stems which are glabrous and have roots at the nodes. Leaves have a circular-reniform shape and are2 to 6cm. long and 1.5 to 5cm. wide, with cremate margins and 5 to 9 ribs. 3 to 10cm. Long petioles, and pedicles 1.2 to 4cm. Long. The sepals of the epicalyx are oval or circular with a membranous border of 2.5 to 3mm. long and 1.5 to .5mm. wide. The umbels have 2 or 3 sessile or very short pedicled florets. The petals are white, purple or pink. Of its chemical composition the concentration of triterpene saponins (up to 8%) stands out. The ain ones are: asiaticoside and madecassoside. Also in minority percentages: centelloside, brahmoside, brahminoside and centellasaponins B, C and D. Triterpene genins: Asiatic acid madecassic acid and madasiatic acid. From its chemical formula derives its main properties, which are mainly an anti-aging and firming effect, improving vascular tone. It exerts a repairing and firming effect on scars.
